Liberty Flames College Football Pregame Quote, 12/30/2023

Opponent: Oregon Ducks
Kaidon Salter

Q. Coach [Jamey] Chadwell said the word of the week is “confidence.” Just tell me how your confidence has grown in an offense that’s become much more dynamic this year?

KAIDON SALTER: Oh, yeah, I mean, just the way everything has been going, executing every week and being in this conference a lot. Just winning and everything like that is boosting my confidence. And being able to play my brothers and trusting each other and we are playing together as one. As long as that’s what’s going on, I feel like all of us have the same confidence to keep on going.

Q. A lot of different motivations for this season. I know one of the biggest is Tajh [Boyd], and playing for him and the legacy and playing for him at the same time.

KAIDON SALTER: Tajh was a brother to all of us. He came in a young dude, a freshman. Just the way that he came in and introduced himself to everybody. After the tragedy, we knew that we had to keep that energy going. We know that each game, he might not be with us in the field, and he’s there with us at all times. I feel that was definitely good to where we were at. It built our bond way stronger after the tragedy. Everybody knew this was for him.

Q. Elite-level rushing attack with this season, not just one guy, multiple guys getting that done, not just yourself, but other guys.

KAIDON SALTER: Just being able to hand the ball off at times and trusting the O-line to get those four or five yards on those runs, and trusting that we can move the ball over there and break a few tackles. So we’re very excited to watch the game. You see the numbers that we put up on the run game. I feel like everybody knows about the running game and it’s something that people have a problem stopping.

Q. To get the success that you’ve had the first year with Coach [Jamey] Chadwell, what does that say about the staff?

KAIDON SALTER: They just trust their system and you know they trust the system to be able to come in January and fall ball. Everybody was believing in the system. As we were able to go into the system each week and every day, he was able to put more into us. If we were able to trust his system, they could throw formations at us and make our offense happen.

Q. What does a win mean for you guys, playing in an NFL stadium?

KAIDON SALTER: That will be a big thing. It means a lot to our school and our conference and a lot of G5 schools out here hoping to be here one day.

Q. You talked about just what it means to be here to represent the Group of Five schools. I want to take you back to Selection Sunday and when you are waiting to see what is going on. What emotions, what thoughts went through your head when you found out you have an opportunity to play in the New Year’s Six bowl?

KAIDON SALTER: It was just a blessing to be able to play in such a big game like this. I have a big football family, and I think they were more excited. I just like to play ball. I feel like our team can compete against anybody, but for us making this game, it means a lot to be in this program.

Q. When you look at this matchup, you have two prolific offenses. What is it like just to know that you will be going up against an opponent that puts up numbers similar to how you have been able to put them up with your offense this year?

KAIDON SALTER: That’s very exciting, to play in this competition, just going out and competing. That’s the most important thing to us, no matter who is across the field from us. We just want to compete and play for each other. So we hear a lot of things. We understand if we go out and play for each other, we shouldn’t be able to be stopped.
