WKU Hilltoppers College Football Pregame Quote, 10/28/2019

Opponent: Florida Atlantic Owls

, Coach

Got another big conference game coming up this week at home against FAU. Really fired up for that opportunity, should be a great conference game. We’re head to head in the East right now, between us, Marshall and FAU, so this is a big one. Guys are looking forward to it and can’t wait to get them in here. Also it’s a game where we’re having donations for canned food all this week, and anybody who brings in three canned goods will get a free ticket to the game to help local families and schools here in Bowling Green. Just wanted to remind everybody of that. Really need our fans to come out and support us, because this is going to be a big one.

On how WKU has responded to the loss:

The guys really handled it like pros, they really didn’t bat an eye. I felt like in the locker room, nobody got down. It’s a hard-fought game, went back and forth, the kid made a good kick right there at the end of the game. So it’s just one of those things, there’s nothing else you can do. You laid it all on the line, on the field, our guys left it out there. We got on the bus and I felt like it was very positive, guys yesterday were great in meetings. I think they already moved on, they got their minds towards FAU, they know it’s a big game coming up, so it’s been really good.

On playing against strong opponents:

We didn’t help them offensively in the first two drives last week, you know we turned the ball over twice on the first two drives … So they had momentum coming out of the gate. When you play good offenses ‚Äì Marshall’s a good offense, Charlotte was a good offense, we’re about to play another really good offense ‚Äì sometimes you have to weather the storm, and I felt like had really done that. After the first two scores, I felt like our guys settled in and calmed down, and then the second half they were outstanding to only give up two field goals and put us back in position to go win the game … And it may be that way this week, we might have to go weather the storm. This a good offense, Coach Kiffin does a great job with his football team; they’ll really test us defensively. I do think it’s another game offensively where we have to get 30-plus points. If the defense plays solid and holds them to 20-something, we have to go get 30-something. If we do that, I feel good about it.

On Lucky Jackson’s 16-reception game:

Number one, I’m very proud of him. He’s really put in his time, he’s worked extremely hard, he’s like a coach on the field for some of the young wideouts also. It was great to see him have the day that he had. Ty’s very comfortable with him, I think he’s really ‚Äì on certain plays ‚Äì looking for Lucky, and Lucky’s come through. To see the stats at the end of the game and for him to have that many catches, I was surprised when I realized it. But it was great for him to have that day, and we’re going to need him down the stretch to continue to make those plays.

On Ty Storey’s performance at Marshall:

I thought he was outstanding, number one, he’s always been a tough kid. For him to stand in the pocket like he did on a couple throws; he kept his eyes downfield and was willing to take the shots was huge. A couple times he was moving around, trying to create, and he took the hits because he chose to do that. It worked sometimes and it didn’t. Game by game he has gotten better and better and better, so the guys are really looking to him now as their leader and the guy who’s going to take them to where they want to go. He embraces all of that and he does a really good job of leading our offense and being a good leader for our team.
