On this week’s UTSA matchup:

It’s always a very competitive game with passion on both sides. There’s a lot of guys who played against each other and there’s alumni and fan support on both sides. It’s a passionate game and both teams obviously want to go out there and win. It is what it is. It’s a rivalry game that you look forward to playing every single year.

There has been some great games and we’ve been on the good side of some and not on the good side of some. It’s not a good feeling when you’re not. But once the dust settles throughout the week and the anticipation leading up to it, once it kicks off it’s truly another game and it’s about making routine plays and trying to execute as best you can. We have to have a lot of great preparation this week in order to play good enough to win the game.

On UTSA QB Frank Harris:

He’s extremely smart and manages the game so well, I feel like he’s been around as long as I have. He has a lot of experience, and their coaching staff does a great job with him. He understands how to get the ball to his playmakers. He takes his shots but does a great job of making quick throws to get the ball in playmakers’ hands to go make plays.

On the atmosphere awaiting UNT in San Antonio:

I think they’ll have great support at the game and I know it’ll be loud. It’ll be an exciting atmosphere. The good thing is we’ve had the opportunity to go on the road and play in some good atmospheres. But in the dome, it’ll be rocking and I know both teams will be excited about that.

Last week builds momentum and validates preparation throughout the week and validates what we’re doing and where our minds are at. Our men have worked hard and overcome a lot of adversity and they just keep plugging away. It’s a credit to those men on the field. We started fast last week in all three phases – defense had 3-4 stops and we were getting the ball and scoring and put pressure on them and then we got the run going which was important with their explosive offense. We felt like we needed to be really good at running the football.
