UTSA Roadrunners College Football Pregame Quote, 11/25/2019

Opponent: Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

, Coach

On his message to the team entering the final week of 2019:

We talked about how we played. How we can play better. How we turn our attention to the last game and to go out in style to win a game that has a lasting effect on you throughout a spring, summer, fall camp. It is what is important. I wouldn’t dare beat a dead horse on something we can’t control. What we can control is how we play against Louisiana Tech in this last game. For us, it is imperative that we give our undivided attention to this opponent and this game.

On the decision to play QB Jordan Weeks in the second half:

I just thought that we were sputtering at times. We needed a spark and a change could be good for us. When we went for that touchdown, we knew we had a play specific for Lowell (Narcisse). Lowell had gotten all of the snaps (in practice) ‚Äì not just majority of the snaps ‚Äì on the jump pass and I didn’t want to put JoJo (Jordan Weeks) in a situation for something we had not prepared him properly for. We inserted Lowell in for that play. And then there were some things that JoJo had executed extremely well in practice and we turned to those for the remainder for the game and I thought he did a good job of carrying those out.

On his embrace with Weeks after a TD drive late in the game:

I think very, very highly of Jojo Weeks from Wimberly High School, and what he was as a high school player is etched in my mind. I’ll never get beyond 50-1 (TD-INT ratio) because that was rare. The ability in decision making and the ability in execution. What he was coming out of high school, him making a decision to trust us and our staff, opting not to tinker with minor league baseball but to come in and play for us. His future and opportunity is here. To see him be put in a situation, now a year more mature and ready, opposed to when he was thrust into the game a year ago against Southern Miss and it was an onslaught of things coming at him. I was just proud of his maturity. I was proud of the way he executed. I was proud of his humility and being just a team player. When someone works hard it is always gratifying to see them reap those benefits and very much congratulatory with the way he executed that drive.

On if QB Lowell Narcisse was limited due to hand injury:

He did. Throughout the game. He had some concerns that we needed to adhere to to make sure he was at his healthiest to be able to produce at a high level.

On if Jordan Weeks could get some reps at QB at LA Tech:

That is under consideration. We’ll see how that goes.

On Louisiana Tech:

Whether they were leading in the conference or a three-way tie it is always hard to go win down there. We haven’t had a lot of success going there. It is a game, a team, that we look forward to playing. They are one of the better teams in Conference USA, year in and year out. Skip Holtz does a really fine job of coaching his team. He has some really talented players. Their business of contending for a conference championship is important to them. What is important to us is finishing on a high note. For us, it is about doing the things we need to for the good of our program. And that is our focus.

On the play of running back Brenden Brady vs. FAU:

We put Brenden in the game and sprinkled B.J. (Daniels) in at spots. It was good for our team and those guys individually. We continued to be productive in the run game and pass-protection game and pass out of the backfield. He played very well.
