UTSA Roadrunners College Football Pregame Quote, 11/29/2021
Opponent: WKU Hilltoppers, Coach
On regrouping and getting refocused after the loss at UNT:
We need to play better. We didn’t play well. We got down late both sides on the line of scrimmage, turned the ball over and didn’t play well. We have to have the ability to self-reflect and give an honest observation of yourself. Once you made those decisions about what happened during the game, you have to get your swag back and move on.
On Western Kentucky’s improvement since the last time the teams faced off:
They are really good. Their quarterback, y’all have heard me say, I told y’all how good he was. I call it like I see it. I think someone told me he has completed 376 passes to [Jerreth]Sterns in his career. Let’s think about that, not just the whole team, to one kid.
On the crowd’s importance at the championship game:
I believe in our kids. I want to make sure that everybody understands that. I believe strongly in our kids. My defense is sick and tired of hearing me talk about [Western Kentucky’s]offense. All I knowhow to do is tell the truth. [Bailey Zappe]checks every play up there. He has never had a bad play. The kid has been playing forever in the same offense with the same coach. I think anything we can do to make them miscommunicate gives us a fighting chance. It might be that one play where he miscommunicates to his receiver, they run the wrong route and he throws it right to us. It might be the one time their offensive line thinks they hear one thing and hears something else. It might be the one time we make them jump offsides. We are all talking about how crushed we are that we are 11-1. There are a lot of plays this season where we are one play away, one inch away, one yard away in so many games. We are 11-1. We could be 6-6 or 7-5. Last year we were 7-5 and could have been 10-2 or 2-10. College football is a game of inches. I have never forgotten that.
